07 Fault Finding

Shared fault-finding workflow and common checks.

1. Scope

Shared fault-finding workflow for i-Series tray sealers.

2. First response workflow

  1. Make safe.

  2. Record the alarm text and time.

  3. Check obvious mechanical obstructions.

  4. Check utilities (air, power, vacuum).

3. Basic checks

  • E-stops reset.

  • Guards closed.

  • Sensors clean and aligned.

  • Air pressure within range.

4. Common machine errors (examples)

Use the HMI guidance first. Use this list for quick triage.

  • Film snap

    • Cause: film broken or over-tensioned.

    • Action: remove broken film, re-thread, reduce tension, check for sharp edges.

  • Tray sensor error

    • Cause: sensor blocked, wet, misaligned, or failed.

    • Action: clean and dry sensor/reflector, verify alignment, check mounting.

  • Pot crush / tray crush

    • Cause: tray not correctly located in the base tool.

    • Action: clear the obstruction, verify tray guides, acknowledge alarm, restart.

  • Low gas pressure

    • Cause: gas not connected or low supply while gas flush is enabled.

    • Action: restore gas supply or disable gas flush in the recipe.

  • Printer error (if fitted)

    • Cause: printer not ready or faulted.

    • Action: reset the printer or disable printer in the recipe.

  • Downstream equipment error (if integrated)

    • Cause: downstream equipment not ready.

    • Action: reset downstream equipment or disable integration in the recipe.

5. When to escalate

Escalate to engineering / OEM support if:

  • Safety circuit faults repeat.

  • Drive faults persist after reset.

  • Sealing performance cannot be restored.

6. Information to capture

  • Machine serial.

  • Software/HMI version.

  • Alarm code/text.

  • Photos of tooling/film path.
