04 Film Handling

Shared film loading, threading, tensioning, and storage guidance.

1. Scope

Common film handling guidance across i-Series tray sealers.

2. Film storage

  • Store film in original packaging.

  • Avoid heat, direct sunlight, and moisture.

3. Film change procedure (typical)

  1. Fit the film roll to the holder shaft.

  2. Centre the roll to the machine film path.

  3. Thread the film through the film path rollers.

  4. Keep the film flat. Avoid creases and edge damage.

  5. Secure the film onto the rewind shaft.

  6. Confirm the film nip roller is down and locked.

  7. Close all guards and perform a safety reset.

  8. Use Manual film feed to advance film.

  9. Set film tension from the home page or recipe settings.

4. Tension and tracking

  • Increase tension if wrinkles occur at the seal station.

  • Reduce tension if the web stretches or snaps.

  • Adjust tracking to keep the film centred over the tooling.

5. Registered film (option)

Registered film uses a printed registration mark and a sensor to align print.

Typical method:

  1. Film feeds to a set distance (recipe film length).

  2. Film speed reduces.

  3. The sensor searches for the registration mark.

  4. The machine corrects film position before sealing.

Use the film adjustment mechanism to shift print position as required.

6. Common defects and causes

  • Wrinkles: low tension or poor tracking.

  • Film snap: over-tension, damaged film edge, or sharp contact points.

  • Poor seal: contamination, incorrect temperature, or insufficient dwell time.

  • Mis-registered print: sensor contamination or incorrect recipe settings.

7. Verification

After any film change:

  1. Run test seals.

  2. Confirm print position (if registered film).

  3. Confirm cut position is within the tool perimeter.
